About the Department of Operations and Information Systems

The Department of Operations and Information Systems is concerned with all operations of an organization and their support by information systems. This includes internal and external planning tasks for production, machine utilization, transportation and logistics, human resources as well as warehousing and services.

The department was founded in 2020 by the merger of three predecessors which now constitute the following research areas:
•    Operation Research
•    Supply Chain Management
•    Information Systems

The department carries out teaching for basic areas of business administration such as Mathematics, Statistics, Production and Logistics as well as business informatics. For the bachelor and master programs of business administration various specialization areas are offered.

The research agenda of the department is focused on quantitative modelling and optimization of industrial operations and on the design, evaluation and empirical analysis of industrial information systems. Theoretical contributions to fundamental research are complemented by applied research projects with industrial partners. The
Business Analytics and Data Science-Center (BANDAS-Center) is closely associated with the department.
