Information Systems Group
Design Science Research is our main research approach in which we design information systems for business problems and develop and evaluate research prototypes. In this regard our main focus in on decision support using data-driven technologies. Furthermore, the impact of information systems and on society is investigated using empirical methods.
The research focus of the group also includes evaluation (e.g., in the university sector, such as research evaluation) as well as selected areas of information law (in particular, data protection and copyright law, including the problem of plagiarism). Another research area deals with informetric and scientometric (measurement and quantification of information and the sciences, respectively) as well as social media analyses. Another focus is the analysis of information technology potentials for the change of existing and the development of new business models. Likewise, the potentials of digital media for changes in informal learning in different, even in this respect still little researched cultural areas are investigated. A special focus is on innovative forms of e-learning.
The Business Analytics and Data Science Center (BANDAS Center) of the SOWI faculty is closely affiliated.
The Information Systems group is located in RESOWI, Building F3 and G3. The group is headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Thalmann, the secretary is Sonja Schreckmair.
