In teaching , the department is responsible for basic training in business mathematics and statistics as well as the fundamentals of production, logistics and business informatics. Several specialisation options are offered in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Business Administration in accordance with the research areas of the department.
The department also offers training in business languages.
The department's research focuses on the quantitative modelling and optimisation of operational business processes and on the design, evaluation and empirical analysis of the effects of business information systems. Theoretical contributions to basic research are pursued as well as applied projects with industrial partners.
The Business Analytics and Data Science Centre (BANDAS Centre) of the SOWI faculty is located in close proximity to the department.
